The last scion of the House of Medici

Anna Maria Luisa de' Medici - PDFLORENCE, ITALY – Saturday, February 18, 2012, the city of Florence will celebrate the anniversary of the death of the Electress Palatine, the last branch of the Grand Ducal de’ Medici family, who ruled Florence for about two centuries. The great merit of Anna Maria Luisa is writing of “Family Pact”, which gave to the State, Grand Duchy of Tuscany, the whole complex of goods that belonged to the Medici collections accumulated over the centuries. It is also thanks to her that Florence now boasts a heritage of art with no equal.

At 10.30 am the historical procession of the Florentine Republic will depart from the “Palagio di Parte Guelfa” until the Medici Chapels for a deposition of a wreath at the tomb of the Electress Palatine. From 2 to 7 pm special opening of the Museum of the Medici Chapels. At 5 pm in the Chapel of the Princes – Museum of the Medici Chapels, participants who attend the concert will have the opportunity to “meet Anna Maria Luisa”  and better understand her character in the historical context. A concert of classical music will follow with the students of Luigi Cherubini Conservatory of Music.

The program includes free guided tours organized by the Popular Traditions Florentine Office in collaboration with the Association Mercurio-Opificio delle Pietre Dure; the groups (maximum 25 people per visit) will meet in via degli Alfani, 78.
