Even this year to celebrate the feast of Epiphany, Friday, January 6, the Opera of Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence (Italy) organizes a reenactment of the Magi.
The event, to the sixteenth edition, was created as part of celebrations to mark 700 years since the laying of the cornerstone and the foundation of the Cathedral, when it was decided to resume an old Florentine tradition.
The solemn procession led by the Three Wise Men on horseback will consist of approximately 700 listed including those of the Florentine republic and will start at 2.15 pm from Piazza Pitti. The procession will wind through the streets of Florence to Piazza Duomo.
In the square of the Cathedral there will be Monsignor Giuseppe Betori, Archbishop of Florence, the president of the Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore Franco Lucchesi, the mayor of Florence Matteo Renzi, and other civil and religious authorities. Here are deposited the gifts of the Magi at the foot of the “Living Nativity”, which will be visible from Cathedral Square from 11 am.
