Aldo Pinchera, internationally renowned endocrinologist, is died last night in his home in Pisa. He died for heart problems. Professor of Endocrinology and director of the first school of specialization in Endocrinology and parts of the University of Pisa was 78 years old.

From 4th to 7th October Pisa shows the future of the Net: 4 days, 104 events, 200 speakers, 12 locations spread around the city, concerts, installations, exhibitions, contests and workshops. From the city symbol of Italian computing – University of Pisa, born in 1969, was the first degree course in computer science from the National Research Council of Italy.
The Wine Trail of the Pisa Hills is an itinerary through the Tuscan countryside, which highlights many small towns that boast great traditions. In the immediate vicinity of Pisa, the trail winds through farmlands, hills and valleys. It is a highly accessible itinerary and can be explored with environmentally-friendly alternatives to cars, like bicycles.

Organized and curated by the Centre for Contemporary Culture Strozzina in the regional project toscanaincontemporanea, Open Studios is a two years project – started in 2009 – which allowe to discover the places of contemporary art through visits to the studios of artists who live and work in the provinces of Florence, Prato, Pistoia, Pisa and Siena.

A bus ride up to Piazzale Michelangelo gives a superb view over Florence, then we walk down to Ponte Vecchio. Afternoon train ride to Pisa to see the tower and Old Town. Designed in 1869 by Florentine architect Giuseppe Poggi, Piazzale Michelangelo offers panoramic views of Florence and the Arno valley and is a popular spot with locals and tourists.

Italian engineers have realized a floating solar power plant that tracks the sun. The system costs 20 percent less than ground-based structures. Panels could be installed over artificial waterways to make better use of wasted space. The first place of realization is Lake Colignola (Pisa) in Tuscany. Its inventor is Marco Rosa-Clot, a professor at Florence University.

The Italian airport system closes 2011 with a growth in passenger traffic up 6.4%, corresponding to over 9 million passengers in 2010. In North-central part of the Country, good results by Pisa Airport, Galileo Galilei (+11.3%), and by Florence airport Amerigo Vespucci (+9.8%).
