FLORENCE, ITALY – Watch the live streaming of The State of the Union conference. It is an annual event for reflection on the European Union, organized by the European University Institute, and takes place in Florence. The 2017 event is scheduled on May 4th and May 5th.

Erasmus to celebrate 30 years in Florence

Erasmus project to celebrate 30 years in Florence

FLORENCE, ITALY – The celebration for the 30 years of Erasmus will begin in Florence on 7 May and will continue until the 9th with a series of events organized by Indire Erasmus+ National Agency together with INAPP and ANG Agency and in collaboration with the relevant Ministries.

The event will be part of the Festival of Europe, a biennial initiative promoted by the municipality of Florence, Regione Toscana, and the European University Institute

The first Erasmus Concert Orchestra will debut in Florence during the celebration for the 30th anniversary of the Erasmus program and the 60th anniversary of the Treaties of Rome.

Forty Erasmus students from eighteen conservatives nationwide will join talents on the 7th of May at 6 pm, in the Piazza Santissima Annunziata in live streaming. The musical performance will signal the official opening of the occasion.

It will be dedicated to the thirteen students who tragically lost their lives last year in the Freginal bus accident in Catalunia: Mohina Abdusaidova, Chloé Chouraqui, Francesca Bonello, Lucrezia Borghi, Valentina Gallo, Elena Maestrini, Julia Mang, Veronica Matcovici, Serena Saracino, Elisa Scarascia Mugnozza, Phuong Anh Tran, Christina Unger, Elisa Valent.

FLORENCE, ITALY – The 2017 State of the Union Conference (#SOU2017) Building a People’s Europe will take place in Florence on 4-6 May 2017.

The #SOU2017  State of the Union conference, organised by the European University Institute (EUI), is an annual event for high-level reflection on the European Union (EU). Now in its seventh year, it has become a reference point in the EU agenda for policy-makers, civil society representatives, business and opinion leaders, and academics. Presidents, Prime Ministers, Foreign Ministers, as well as the President of the European Commission and the President of the European Parliament have taken part in the event over the years.

In 2017, The State of the Union, under the title Building a People’s Europe, will revolve around the theme of European Citizenship, a multi-faceted topic of acute relevance across all EU member states. Sessions will deal with the future of citizenship; direct democracy and populism; the impact of the global refugee emergency on Europe; the financial crisis, the free movement of persons and the labour market; and security, in a broad sense of the word.

In times of crisis or instability, a clear and nuanced multi-level understanding of the EU’s successes, failures and challenges is crucial. By offering a moment for key actors to meet and reflect on Europe’s most pressing issues, The State of the Union conference responds to this need.

The State of The Union in Florence

FLORENCE, ITALY – The State of the Union conference, #SOU2016, organised by the European University Institute (EUI), is an annual event for high-level reflection on the European Union and is a reference point in the EU agenda for policy-makers, civil society representatives, business and opinion leaders, and academics.

Over the last five years we have seen the participation of the President of the European Commission, the President of the European Parliament, Presidents, Prime Ministers, and Foreign Ministers. The 2016 edition is focused on the topic of Women in Europe and the World to analyse the status of women in terms of what has been achieved.

The conference’s sixth edition takes place in Florence from 5 to 7 May 2016. Among the participants of May 5 at the Villa Salviati, there will be Ignazio Visco, Governor of the Bank of Italy; Sandro Gozi, Italian State Secretary for European Affairs, Enrique Baron Crespo, former President of the European Parliament; Giuliano Amato, Judge at the Italian Constitutional Court, former Italian Prime Minister.

Women in Europe and the World topic of #SOU2016

FLORENCE, ITALY – The State of the Union conference, organised by the European University Institute (EUI), is an annual event for reflection on the European Union.

The 2016 edition will bring together representatives from the world of policy and academia, to debate the theme of Women in Europe and the World in a series of keynote speeches and round table discussions.

The Sixth Edition of The State of The Union will take Place from 5 to 7 May 2016, in Florence, at the Badia Fiesolana (the European University Institute’s hub, opened in 1976) and in Palazzo Vecchio (the historic city hall of Florence).
