FLORENCE, ITALY – The G7 of the culture will be held in Florence, the minister of cultural heritage Dario Franceschini says. The summit of all ministers of culture of the G7 is set in the Tuscan capital for the 30 and 31 march 2017.
«This meeting – Franceschini says – will consist of two days of work, and priority will be given to the issue of protection of cultural heritage, illicit traffic and to the culture as an instrument of dialogue between peoples. Continue, therefore, the effort of the Italian government to bring to global attention the issue of culture as a tool for integration, growth, and sustainable development». The mayor of Florence, Dario Nardella, talks about a «extraordinary opportunity».
At the beginning the former Italian Premier Matteo Renzi said in a letter to the Florentines that he has proposed his hometown of Florence play host to the summit of leaders of the Group of Eight (now G7 for the Russian suspension) industrialized countries in 2017. Then, the choice fell on Sicily and Florence has been selected for the meeting of the seven Ministers of Culture of the leading countries of the world.
